WA Under-22's bring home some bling

The 2017 Australian Under 22 Ultimate Championships has been run for it's second year. 17 teams came from around Australia competed across three divisions and the peak event held at Eric Mobbs Reserve in Castle Hill, NSW. Western Australia sent three teams; Women's, Men's and Mixed, here's how they went.. 

Women's Division

The women's division saw WA, SA, NSW, ACT, VIC and for the first time ever New Zealand, compete across the three day event, New Zealand took honours over ACT in the final and the WA women took home the bronze.

The Women's team had great tournament, winning all of their pool play games against the other states, but losing to New Zealand. On the third day, WA lost their semi-final against ACT on universe point in a very hard fought game but were able to bounce back and take the bronze over NSW 10-7.

Men's Division

In the men's division their were six states, WA, SA, NSW, ACT, VIC, and QLD. Ending in a thrilling universe win for VIC over QLD. Once again the WA men were in the bronze medal play off after going down to QLD in the semi-final. This year NSW edged them out and won the bronze medal game on universer point.

Brendon Canzirri, Captain of the men's team, finished in second place overall MVP by 1 point and The WA Men were named Spirit of the Game winners.

Mixed Division

Five states competed in the mixed gender division with NSW defeating SA in a sensational final with VIC taking home the bronze.

VIC and SA were named joint Spirit of the Game winners, with the WA mixed finishing a close second by 0.23 points.

The WA Mixed team had a tough weekend with a few close games, big losses and a universe point loss, the still managed to keep their spirits high and work hard in some windy conditions.

Ava Kazemi, finished in second place overall feamle MVP for the mixed division.

Green and Gold Teams

This year had the first introduction of Green and Gold teams, awarded to the 20 outstanding players in each division. Congratulations to the players selected on the 2017 Green and Gold teams named at the competition.

Women's: Emma Terkildsen, Kirra Webb, Megan McKenna, Sage Lovell, Yulyn Ng.
Men's: Alex O'Neil, Brendon Canzirri.
Mixed: Jack Nathan.
