DUST 2017 Wrap-Up

Done and DUST.ED – that’s how everyone left the fields on Sunday after a long weekend of ultimate.

Saturday saw 5 teams battle it out with teams from Perth, Bunbury, Mandurah, Esperance and Dunsborough playing in hot and still conditions. It was a gruelling day with clear winners Ducksbrahdah taking the tournament in straight wins. MVP’s Tara Schwarze and Oliver Berry played out of their skin – literally, both of them sporting massive grazes as testament to the deserved titles.

ButterMonkeys, who had travelled just down the road from Bunbury to take part took out the Spirit prize with an average rating of 8/10.

In his first tournament and game 1 of the day being his second game ever, Scott Duncan took away the Best Rookie award with an amazing effort (in fact he nearly claimed the MVP title for the whole day missing out by only 1 vote to Ollie).

Saturday evening saw the Kanjam tournament take place with over 15 teams involved, another rookie claiming the title with Stuart Ellis delivering some silky smooth discs carrying him and Kris Davis to the title. Tessa Swain and Cate Lansdell took out the second tournament as the sun set on a glorious day of disc. The party carried on late into the night ensuring some tired and bleary hat teams the next day.

The Sunday Hat kicked off with 4 teams in more super-hot and dry conditions. With 2 games before the sausage sizzle lunch it was decided to combine teams for the last game of the day ending in a hilarious 12 v 12 hacky point to give the white shirts the win!

Tournament Director, Kris Davis wrapped up the tournament by saying: "I can’t thank everyone enough for coming down and helping the rural scene, with some great rookies and attracting the attention of some more locals I look forward to getting our team in shape for the upcoming Tournaments.

Special thanks go to the Esperance crew, the Warnocks and all the volunteers for making this happen.

Looking forward to next year – the whispers of a low tide beach HAT in the bay are getting louder."
