2017 AYUC Tournament Review

Once again the Australian Youth Ultimate Championships returned to Melbourne (7-9 July 2017) to see Australia's top 179 players across 11 state teams competing for the national titles.

Amazing to see so much participation and excitement from around Australia to take part in this peak youth event hosted at Albert Park in Melbourne, Victoria.

The girl's division was full of tough competition, in 2015 and 2016 the West Australian Girls team took home silver after losing both finals to New South Wales (NSW). 2017 was no different as NSW took the championship title over Victoria this time, making it the third title in a row for the NSW girls.

The Western Australia U18 Girls took home the bronze medal in an amazing win over South Australia in some blustery conditions. The WA girls were also named Spirit of the Game winners! The West Australian Girls Team merged with the ACT girls team for this competition.

In the boys division Victoria took out the championship over New South Wales and being the first boys team in history to go back to back. The West Australian boys met victoria twice in the competition, going down by 2 points in pool play but were no match for the Victorians in their semi-final loss. The U18 WA boys secured the bronze medal after a convincing win over ACT, managing to score several up-wind breaks.

At the 2017 Australian Youth Ultimate Championships, 15 athletes of each gender were named on the Green and Gold team to represent Australia in the Trans-Tasman competition. These athletes received an invite to play for Australia in the Trans-Tasman serie against New Zealand

Congratulations to the WA players selected on the 2017 Green and Gold teams!!
