After 18 months of hard work by the Australian Flying Disc Association, the dream became a reality in July 2021, when the Ulti-Mates Program went live.
Ulti-Mates is a program that is now bringing Ultimate programs to primary school students across Australia. In fact in Term 3 and 4 of 2021, a total of 24,736 students were introduced to Ultimate - a truly whopping number!
Thanks to the Federal Government’s Sporting Schools Program, schools when applying for funding to bring sport to their classes can now select Ultimate as an option. Once the funding is secured, we can now offer our programs to them, and we are doing that with great success. In fact, of the 37 sports available, we sit comfortably in the top 10 of participation for 2021.
Not only that, but we also received a rating of 4.7 out of 5 by teachers in terms of their satisfaction with Ulti-Mates - testament to the quality of the program and our coaches.
Speaking of our coaches in WA, well they are exceptional. Firstly, a huge shout out to Anna Haynes for getting the program rolling in Term 3, out and about promoting the program and rolling her sleeves up running sessions as needed. We have been assisted by some wonderful coaches in Sheng, Ben and Shane, guys who are very well known to the Ultimate community and have stepped up to be outstanding coaches both in Term 3 and Term 4.
Looking at the WA figures more specifically, we have visited 33 schools, delivered 354 sessions, assisted with 26 teacher-led programs and had more than 4,000 students take part in the program.
What a great success, and what a great base to build on. We have already had many requests for Ulti-Mates Programs in Term 1, 2022 as we look to expand the program in numbers and into the lower high school age groups.
